“This Is My Life”: A Tribute to Alysha Ramus

Created a heartfelt print booklet and companion video tribute for Canadian Nurse, honouring the life and legacy of Alysha Ramus — a nursing student who passed away from cancer before completing her degree. The project featured a magazine-style print version of her powerful final article, complemented by a short podcast-style video using excerpts from her personal audio transcript. Deeply moving and widely appreciated, especially by Alysha’s family, the project stands as a lasting tribute to her voice, spirit, and message to the nursing profession.
Situation
Canadian Nurse sought to honour Alysha Ramus, a fourth-year nursing student who shared her raw, courageous account of being diagnosed with terminal cancer, offering invaluable insight into the health-care system from both a patient and future nurse perspective.

Task
Design a print booklet styled after Canadian Nurse’s former magazine format and create a short video tribute using Alysha’s audio transcript, preserving and amplifying her story for her family, fellow nurses, and the broader public.

Action
Designed a print-ready publication featuring Alysha’s article, messages from her professors and oncologist, and curated layout reflective of the original magazine’s legacy. Developed a short, podcast-style video using her audio transcript, adding visual storytelling to her spoken reflections. Maintained emotional sensitivity throughout, ensuring Alysha’s voice remained central.

Result
The booklet was deeply appreciated by Alysha’s family, who received it as a meaningful keepsake. The video tribute further extended her voice across social media, touching many in the nursing community. The project was praised internally for its compassion, execution, and storytelling — preserving Alysha’s message as a powerful contribution to the profession she loved.
